News from The Bridges Group

One Life

An invitation from our local churches to join us for an opportunity to consider the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth – one man who not only shaped history but may also hold the key to our destiny

He has affected the course of history more than any other. He has influenced our language, names, culture, architecture, religion, calendar and even gave us Christmas!

He claimed to be the Son of God, to be the truth, to be able to forgive sins and that if killed, he would rise from the grave. He spoke often of heaven and of life after death.

If he is not who he claimed to be, then 2000 years of Christianity has been based on false assumptions and lies, making it at best irrelevant and at worst, fraudulent. BUT, if he is who he claims to be, can we afford to ignore him?

Have you ever seriously considered …..

  • Who is this man?
  • Is he who he said he is?
  • Can we really know?

On 6 Thursday evenings, starting on 6th October at Napton Sports Pavilion, Priors Marston Road

The first and last evening will begin with a meal (at 7.30pm), the other evenings with coffee and cakes (at 8.00pm).

Every evening there will be some live input from those who can speak from experience then time in small groups to discuss, question, argue and dig deeper into what we know of this extraordinary man.

The whole event is FREE, with costs covered by donations from previous courses, together with the generosity of the Sports Pavilion Committee

Chirstmas Tree Festival

Christmas Tree Festival - Brownies winning tree

A huge thank you to all the 17 organisations that took part in our Christmas Tree Festival

The trees were amazingly creative - from the glittery dinosaurs of the Toddlersaurs to the glittering prizes of the Petanque Club!

The winning entry with the most votes over the weekend was the Brownies with their beautifully colour co-ordinated and handmade decorations. The results are as follows, in descending order:

  1. The Brownies
  2. Stockton School Toddlersaurs
  3. The Church Flower Ladies
  4. The Beavers
  5. Good Neighbours
  6. The Women’s Institute
  7. Stockton Church
  8. The Nelson Club
  9. The Scouts
  10. The Tuckwell Community Garden
  11. Stepping Stones
  12. The Potting Shed
  13. Fossils
  14. The Petanque Club
  15. Stockton’s News
  16. E&D Community Tree (not really part of the voting as their tree was made by whoever turned up on Saturday!)

Thank you to everyone who came along to see the trees, enjoyed the homemade cakes and took part in the children’s workshop.

The Big Draw at Stockton Church

The Big Draw at Stockton Church
Over the weekend of 9/10 October we had over 250 people in Stockton Church making their mark in a big way. They were enjoying Stockton's part of the national "Big Draw" campaign. From the youngest at 8 months to the oldest at over 80 years, they all had fun in a creative way. Thanks to our local artists, E&D Art (Emma and Deborah) and Julia Prior for organizing the event. http://www.campaignfordrawing.org/bigdraw/index.aspx
